What to do when you get it wrong. Client is looking for something, you thought you delivered it and they say, “That is not what I was looking for or expected from you.” What is your default reaction? You had a good idea. It was a good idea, but they didn’t get why it was a good idea. You think you should Push Back. You can, if that is your style and will work. Or You can Make Space. Ask: “Can we pause a moment. Can I share what I had been thinking so you can help me understand you better.” Hard to say no to that. And it allows you to share without being defensive which can bring you and your client closer.
